I think Gilad Atzmon is a fantastic person, a true inspiration and I love his work. But it is his journey as a musician that has brought him his awareness about his religious and nationalistic endoctrination; which he rose above and became a humanist. But Gilad Atzmon does not endorse any non-jewish doctrines such as Islam, christianity or hinduism, it is religious endoctrination that he rejects, so I think it is a bit of a mistake to associate him to religious scriptures or beliefs of Islamic faith.

My grandfather’s name was Israel. That makes my father quite literally one of the “children of Israel”. I a Jew. Who are you?

I know who I am. I know where I come from. I live in the new world now. I look to the future. The old world has been destroyed. The shtetl where my grandparents were born was burned to the ground, its inhabitants carted off to death camps. There are lessons to be learned from history. If you don’t know where you come from then you don’t know where you are going to.

The idea that Islam offers some kind of humanistic alternative to tribalism is the most ridiculous piece of nonsense that I have read all day. The middle-east is currently torn apart by tribal warfare. Islam only raises the conflict one step higher. The Believers versus the Infidels. To accuse the Jews of being tribalistic is a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

The children of Israel refers to a confederation of 12 tribes who agreed to work with each other rather than against each other. The family has always been the basis of society, it remains the basis of society in the US and western Europe to this day. The tribe is never going to disappear or go away.
Either the different tribes learn to co-operate to negotate and to compromise or they fight each other to the death.

The Jewish people are no more tribal than any other people. Arguably idealistic notions such as humanism and being “citizens of the world” are more widespread amongst this people than any other. Islam does not offer universal humanism to non-believers, but only to those who accept Muhummud as the one and only prophet.

Shema Yisrael Adonai Elohenu Adonai Echad

Here Oh Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

YHWH is both the God of Israel and the God of the whole world, he “chose” the Jewish people not because they were “better” than other people or “more righteous”. He chose then because they were the smallest people and because he wanted to illustrate his hand in history.

The Jewish people have sinned. They have struggled with God. They have asked questions with no answered. But God has never rejected them and they have never rejected God.

To believe that the Koran is the literal word of God, his final message to humanity, and that his commandments must be followed to the letter – this is the ultimate religious indoctrination. Very few Jews today, excluding a small number of hard-core ultra-orthodox subscribe to this level of fundamentalism.

Peace. Love. Happiness. May the Messiah come soon and end the war in the middle east.
