WHY IRAN? Give Iran a Break!
Debbie Menon for Salem-News.com
Iran has not invaded or threatened any country for two and a half centuries.
(MELBOURNE, Aust.) - Iran has not attacked another country militarily. The track records of the US, Israel, the UK and France are very different.
These so called “democracies” have a bloody history of invading other countries on flimsy excuses.
There are parallels, between the western media rhetoric about Iraq’s nuclear threat prior to the US invasion and the rhetoric about Iran’s nuclear programme today. In repeatedly misinterpreting the statements of Iran’s Ahmadinejad, the US-Israel media paints him as the Hitler of the Middle East. There was no reality check before Iraq and there is no reality check now.
Iran has been a consistent supporter of the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and called for a nuclear weapons free Middle East.
The comments of Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad against Israel have been repeated by some of Iran ‘s leaders since 1979 and constitute no practical threat. A tit-for-tat response.
The statement attributed to him that “Israel should be wiped off the map” is a distortion of the truth and has been determined by a number of Farsi linguists, amongst them, Professor Juan Cole, to be a mistranslation.
What he actually said was that “the regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time”.
Ahmadinejad has made clear that he envisions regime change in Israel through internal decay.
The classic lie in the western Media, of course, is the lie that he had stated that: “Israel must be wiped off the map.”
Most media groups in the west fall in line with that thinking.
Janet Daly of the London Telegraph repeated this lie on a BBC programme when it has been exposed as such for well over two years. Larry King did the same, during his interview with Ahmadinejad, then cut to a commercial break before giving him time to respond, then, of course, he moved on to another subject, after the break. This has been their way for decades.
If you do not already know, Ahmadinejad was quoting Ayatollah Khomeini who actually said:
…this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods)
must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad).
Iranian leaders have said consistently for two decades that they will accept a two-state solution in Palestine if a majority of Palestinians favour that option. This is in sharp contrast to the explicit threats by Israel and the US leaders against Iran, including aid to separatist movements to disintegrate and wipe Iran off the map, as reported by Seymour Hersh and Reese Elrich.
There is considerable evidence of clandestine operations by the US, British and Israeli agents who are arming, training and funding terrorist entities such as Jundollah in Baluchistan, Arab separatists in Khuzestan, and PJAK in Kurdistan.
These concrete attempts at disintegration of Iran, as well as the 100 million dollars congressional funding for ‘democracy’ promotion in Iran, constitute aggression and are interference in Iran’s domestic affairs and the Iranian people’s rights of sovereignty.
They violate the bilateral Algiers Accord of 1981, in which Washington renounced any such actions in the future.
Iran is no match for Israel, whose security and military needs are all but guaranteed by US taxpayers, most of whom are not even aware of this fact. Iran is surrounded on all sides by the US Navy and American bases. Iran has not invaded or threatened any country for two and a half centuries.
Give Iran a break!

Dear Ms.Menon, thank you for an excellent and well written article.
Iran is neither a threat to the U.S., to Israel, to its neighbours, or any other nation. These are all propaganda and disinformation used by the US Gov. by Israel, and the Zionist Lobby to once again create another bogus enemy to do what has been done to Iraq, and now Afghanistan, Pakistan and of course let’s not forget Palestine.
Why Iran? It’s because Iran is the only country who has stood up to the bullying powers, something which is simply unacceptable by the super-power and the dominating force in the Middle East Israel. An independent Iran is a threat to US/Israeli hegemony of this oil rich region.
All of this talk about Iran’s intent of building a nuclear bomb is nothing but political games played by the West and Israel. Iran has a right to enrich uranium as a signatory to the NPT for civilian purposes. Alternative sources of energy are a must for the entire world including the countries in the Middle East. The ME cannot rely solely on their oil and gas, a depleting resource to provide the fuel needed for domestic consumption and the major source of revenue for these countries. Iran has gained this know-how on its own without the help of any other country. It will be willing to share this know-how with its neighbours in the region. This will break the dominance of the U.S. in the ME. This is why Iran is a threat.

“Iran has not invaded or threatened any country for two and a half centuries.”
I heard this cliché repeatedly from the supporters of the IRI. Why should we give credit of two and half centuries of Iran’s non aggressive policy to the IRI, while the IRI has been in power for 31 years?
On the contrary, the IRI was responsible for 6 out of 8 years of war with Iraq, as Khomeini said, “it war was blessing for them”. Their intention was two folds in the war. One was to solidify its internal power and suppressing all opponent groups, second to capture Karbala, one of the Shii holy places in the world. Also, the IRI has had intention of exporting its revolution to the world, but they haven’t had power to do so. Exporting revolution to the world through Karbala and Jerusalem was a mobilizing slogan during the war with Iraq. Once, Rahim Safavi, the former chief commander of the Revolutionary Guard, clearly indicated that the IRI must fill the vacuum of power in the world after the demise of the Soviet Union. Today, they have to resolve their internal crisis rather than to export their failed Islamic revolution or fill the vacuum of power in the world.

I don’t think the Zionists are interested in dominating the Palestinians. They are only interested in Annihilating the Palestinians. All of these peace talks and cease fires are nothing but a show for Americans in the American media. It is only a distraction. Their goal is to cleanse Palestine of Palestinians. They have two methods to accomplish this goal.
A) Make life so miserable so Palestinians leave on their own accord.
B) Reduce the number of Palestinians via periodic Massacres.
It appears they are using both of these methods simultaneously these days.
The only hope and I repeat, the only hope for Palestinians is a victory for the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of President Ahmadinejad over American imperialism and Israeli Zionism.
Also, you have to understand that a high majority of Iranians outside of Iran belong to that class of Iranians who were abusing that nation prior to the 1979 revolution and have no place inside of Iran any longer. This is a very important point to understand.
Here is more proof that these Arab nations with leaders who dance to the music of American government like street monkeys can not be relied upon when it comes to the future of Palestinians. I say it again, their only hope relies on a successful struggle of IRI under President Ahmadinejad against American/Zionist imperialism.

As the author accurately pointed out Iran has not attacked any country for 300 years. And the Islamic Republic of Iran since its formation in the past 31 years has not invaded any country either, while it has been attacked by the former dictator of Iraq Saddam Hussein. Natually, every country when attacked will defend itself against an aggressor and this is what Iran did. The former dictator of Iraq whose country is now under attack by the U.S. Gov. was in fact supported by the U.S., and other Western countries while some of the Arab countries namely Saudi Arabia and Kuwait provided the funding for the war.
Not only was Iraq supported by the U.S. and European countries by providing state of the art military aircrafts and military arsenal, some of these countries also provided Iraq with chemical and biological weapons, which were used not only by Saddam against his own people but also against Iranian soldiers and civilians.
Iran did not retaliate in kind. Furthermore when the U.S. invaded Iraq illegally in its now famous “Shock & Awe”, as it gathered the coalition of the willing, Iran was also invited to participate as a retalitory measure against Iraq’s war with Iran – Iran refused!! Iran had nothing against the Iraqi people and was not willing to particicpate in an illegal war of aggression, while other countries did and some Arab countries even allowed their military bases and air spaces to be used against their Arab brothers.
Iran has been one of the staunchest supporters of the Palestinians especially under President Ahmadinejad. It has been the voice of the voiceless and in return has gained the wrath of the Zionist regime and the U.S.
