We know that approximately 21% of its population is comprised of native Palestinian Christians, Muslims and Druze. If the large number of Christian immigrants from the former USSR who pretended to be Jews in order to enter Israel - many hoping to use it as a stop-over en route to the West - is included, the number of non-Jews is probably well over 25%. It should also be remembered that the census for Israel still includes as citizens the near one million Jews who have emigrated abroad over the past 10 to 12 years. Hence, the percentage of Israel's citizens who are non-Jewish is probably at least 30% - hardly a "Jewish state." Apart from resulting in a probable cancellation of the Palestinians' inalienanble 'right of return,' declaring Israel a "Jewish state" would also open the door for "encouraging" non-Jews to leave as their numbers become ever greater due to a much higher birth rate.
